Hi, I’m Sarah Diaz-Bastin.
I’m a painter, Qigong practitioner, massage therapist, mother, energy worker, and lifelong student of spiritual traditions.
II've been drawn to color and symbolic art since childhood — Kandinsky, the Fauvists, Hundertwasser, Klee. Aboriginal painting and Indigenous rock art all shaped how I see.
As an adult, I left a stable job to attend the San Francisco Art Institute, eager to break free from a beige cubicle and live out my art dreams. But somewhere between my head, my heart, and my hands, there was a block. In frustration and disappointment, I quit art school.
Then my path led me to Qigong, a Chinese moving meditation that changed everything. It taught me the primacy of energy in the body, and gave me a way to understand my emotions and how balance can heal. I went on to study massage and acupressure, learning to be present with myself and with others. When I finally began to paint from a state of flow in my own body, everything shifted and I found a creative spontaneity I hadn't known was possible.
Understanding and working with this energy has been a twenty-year process. What began as an explosion of raw color and gesture has, over the years, gained precision without losing its intensity. My current symbolic language moves between radiating, rock-like forms and the geometry of pyramids and mountains, layered with the wisdom of the Five Elements of Chinese Medicine and the energetics of color,
